14 March Medicine Day Celebrated by Our Rector Prof.Dr.Süleyman ÖZDEMİR.

As Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University Faculty of Medicine, I would like to thank you for your participation in the 14 March Medicine Day celebration program, which we held for the first time, and to our faculty members who participated in our robe-dressing ceremony.

Although there are various events celebrated around the world on certain days within a calendar, there is no medical holiday event celebrated worldwide. However, in the memory of our physicians who have given their shoulders to our national struggle since the beginning of our Republic, in memory of our love for freedom and in memory of the establishment of the School of Medicine, we strive to celebrate the 14th March Medicine Day in our country with various activities.

Hikmet Boran, who raised the flag against the occupation on March 14, 1919, is a 3rd year student at the Medical School, a young man who firmly defended the rhetoric that mandate and protection are not accepted at the Sivas congress, and is from Balıkesir Savaştepe. Hikmet Boran died in 1945 as a result of Tuberculosis, which he caught while treating Sarıkamış veterans during his duty as a general surgeon.

Today, I would like to express my gratitude to all our physicians and healthcare workers who have worked devotedly during the pandemic we are experiencing, and I respectfully commemorate all our martyrs, especially the soldiers of our health army, who drank the sherbet of martyrdom, and may their souls rest in peace.

Following the establishment decision in 2020, our faculty accepted its first students with 40 quotas in the OSYM preference guide of that year, and today it continues its education and training life with 81 students. However, our students continue their education at Istanbul University Capa Medical Faculty within the framework of the protocol signed between universities with the interest and efforts of our Rector.

We held our first face-to-face meeting with our students at the beginning of the 2021-2022 academic year in the form of a short program with the approval and support of our rector, and we continue to communicate with our students. We also continue our efforts to improve our academic and physical structure so that our students can continue their education here.

In this context, while we continue our academic growth with our more than 40 lecturers, we continue to provide health services in the Bandırma Training and Research Hospital, right next to us, within the framework of the co-use protocol. With the beginning of the health service provision of our teachers, attempts, operations and polyclinics have started to be carried out in specific areas in Bandırma, but the number of these will increase with the growth of our faculty, the increase in the number of our academicians and the development of the hospital in terms of equipment.

In order to take our students to our campus and enable them to continue their education there, we have started the project work of a morphology building that will meet our physical needs in the early period, and we have brought it to a certain maturity.

The fact that our morphology building is included in the investment plan or that philanthropists embrace the city's faculty and provide support and contribution, as is the case in many other cities, will contribute to the fulfillment of our physical space need in a shorter time.

Faculties of Medicine are institutions that provide health services, provide undergraduate and graduate education, and conduct research at the same time. We are also making an intense effort to open up the fields that our academicians need so that they can conduct research. If we express what we have done in this regard under a few headings;

We hold lunch meetings, which can be called routine, in order to initiate and activate project collaborations and collaborations between our faculty and other faculties such as the faculty of engineering, and we wish to continue these,

By activating the clinical research ethics committee of our medical faculty, approved by the Ministry of Health, our efforts for the committee to make file evaluations have yielded and our committee has become able to hold its routine meetings,

We have started our initiatives so that our academicians can benefit from the experimental animals unit, research and application center of Balıkesir University, Faculty of Medicine, when necessary,

In a record-breaking short period of time, we have launched our Hippocratic medical journal, which is one of the sine qua non of academic life and represents us in the field of scientific literature, in Turkish, in December last year. In addition to ensuring that it is scanned in some national and international indexes, we continue our applications to be included in larger indexes, and we fully believe that the number of indexes will increase as the number of publications increases.

Another record of our faculty in its field can be expressed as the body donation received in the first year of its establishment.

We started our field visits in order to establish cooperation with the public industry and universities and to create opportunity intervals, and we are making an effort to continue.

we will.

While we held our first scientific meeting with the ERAS protocols awareness symposium last year, we will hold the first scientific meeting in the field of medicine and health law in the south Marmara and the second scientific meeting of our faculty in the next May this year.

I would like to briefly talk about the steps we have taken for the internationalization of our faculty;

We have made the necessary applications for our faculty to be included in the list of World Medical Faculties and it will probably be included in this list in the near future.

When we take our students here, even before they come here, we have implemented ERASMUS protocols from European countries in order to enable their education mobility abroad and to accept students from abroad, and we will continue to increase our initiatives to add new ones to our protocols.

We made various correspondences to promote our journal, named Hipokrat medical journal abroad, and included names from other countries in the editorial board of our journal.

We have assigned one of our faculty members to work in a research center in the United States for one year within the scope of Tübitak international project supports.

A faculty member with overseas experience will join us in the near future.

In summary, from last March until today, we have quietly accomplished many groundbreaking firsts in our faculty. In our future works, we will continue to do our best to raise values such as Hulusi Behçetler, Gazi Yaşargiller and Aziz Sancarlar.

I would like to express that there is a lot of hard work, effort, effort, dedication and sacrifice behind all of what we do.

For this reason, especially our assistant deans, Dr. Aykut Baser and Dr. Engin Aydın, I would like to thank all my academic and administrative colleagues.
